TL;DR

N12 reports that during a squad commanders course in March 2025, Capt. David Hazut gave his cord to Lt. Ron Arieli. Ron fell in Gaza in September 2025, and David was killed in a clash in southern Lebanon last week. The cord, kept by Ron's family, now symbolizes their bond and shared values.

01 · THE DISPATCH

The story of a cord exchanged between two IDF officers, both of whom later fell in combat, emerged Tuesday evening in a report by N12. Capt. David Hazut, who had been a platoon commander in the Golani Brigade, gave his commander's cord to Lt. Ron Arieli upon completing a squad commanders course in March 2025. Lt. Arieli was killed in action in the Gaza Strip in September 2025. Capt. Hazut maintained close contact with Arieli's family and tended to the cord's preservation. Hazut himself was killed in a clash with terrorists in southern Lebanon last week, the IDF confirmed at the time. As The Zioneer reported, Hazut fell in a Hezbollah ambush in the village of Deir Siryan; the operative who shot him was later eliminated. The cord, now held by Arieli's family, has become a symbol of the friendship, values, and unique bond between the two fallen officers.
