IDF Central Command canceled a ceremony for the establishment of a mosque at the Solomon Pools heritage site near Bethlehem, after MK Zvi Sukkot (Religious Zionism) announced he would protest the event. The Palestinian Authority Prime Minister was scheduled to participate. The commander of Central Command, Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth, ordered the cancellation and also prevented the mosque's construction. Sukkot welcomed the decision and pledged to continue opposing PA efforts to take over Jewish heritage sites. The Solomon Pools, located in the Etzion Bloc area, are a historic site that has been a point of contention between Israelis and Palestinians. The PA has not yet commented on the cancellation.
