A red heifer calf was born in northern Israel amid the war; shortly after birth a farm worker attached an ear tag, causing a blemish. After eight days the National Institute for Red Heifer removed the tag. A rabbinical court now must decide whether the calf remains fit for the Temple purification ritual once the wound heals.
