The Tax Authority director told the mayor of Bnei Brak that the Compensation Fund will not handle war damage claims in the city until the municipality unequivocally condemns the attack on Tax Authority inspectors. The move follows the Authority's earlier freeze of aid to the city.
The director of the Israel Tax Authority has informed the mayor of Bnei Brak that Compensation Fund personnel will not handle war damage claims in the city unless the mayor unequivocally condemns the recent attack on Tax Authority inspectors. The ultimatum came in a letter obtained by The Zioneer.
Earlier today, the Tax Authority froze all war damage assistance to Bnei Brak residents, following the attack on its inspectors Wednesday evening. The earlier freeze, as The Zioneer reported, applied to homeowners whose properties were damaged in the Iran War. The director's letter escalates the standoff by making any future aid conditional on a political statement from the city's leadership.
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich previously condemned the attack, calling it unacceptable. MK Israel Cohen (United Torah Judaism) criticized the freeze, arguing the Authority was punishing an entire city for the actions of a few extremists. The mayor of Bnei Brak has not yet responded publicly.
