The Lead
Dramatic rescue footage was released Sunday evening from the scene of a car bombing in Jaffa that claimed the life of 38-year-old Iyad Gharb and wounded his young son. The incident, which occurred on Saharon Street, is being treated by Israel Police as a criminal assassination linked to an ongoing local feud.
The explosion occurred at approximately 07:30 on Sunday morning while the vehicle was in motion. According to Magen David Adom (MDA) and police reports, Iyad Gharb was killed instantly by the blast, which involved an explosive device weighing approximately half a kilogram placed under the vehicle. His 6-year-old son, who was in the car on his way to school, was evacuated to Wolfson Medical Center with light-to-moderate injuries.
Criminal Context and Feud
Israel Police have launched a formal investigation, with the case assigned to the Tel Aviv District Central Unit (YAMAR). Preliminary findings suggest the bombing is a criminal act related to a violent dispute in Jaffa. Investigators are specifically examining a potential link to the murder of 16-year-old Ahmad Jabri, who was shot dead this past Thursday. The Zioneer previously reported on the wave of violence in the area, including the execution of a young woman in Ramla and the shooting of Jabri at his workplace.
Operational Response
Tel Aviv District Commander, Commissioner Haim Sargrof, conducted a situational assessment at the scene. Large police forces, including forensic experts and sappers, were deployed to collect evidence and search for suspects. MDA paramedics described a scene of heavy smoke and debris, noting that the severity of Gharb's injuries left them with no choice but to pronounce him dead at the scene. The newly released footage captures the immediate moments following the blast as emergency teams worked to secure the area and treat the survivors.
