TL;DR

National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir responded Sunday evening to Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara's warning, accusing her of operating the Shin Bet security service to spy on him. He said the government will complete the judicial reform in full and that she will be held accountable for what he called selective enforcement and undermining the rule of law.

01 · THE DISPATCH

The latest exchange between National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara escalated Sunday evening, with Ben Gvir accusing her of using the Shin Bet security service to spy on him. In a statement, he called the attorney general's earlier warning — that the government's cabinet decision undermines the rule of law — "ironic" and said she should be the one held accountable.

Ben Gvir vowed that the government will complete the judicial reform in full, a goal his Otzma Yehudit party has made a central demand. The conflict between the AG and the government has intensified over the past year, with Ben Gvir and other coalition members regularly criticizing Baharav-Miara for what they describe as selective enforcement and political interference. The attorney general has warned that several government moves threaten democratic norms.

The Shin Bet has not publicly commented on the allegation. No evidence has been presented to support the claim that the security service was used for political surveillance, a charge the AG's office has previously denied in other contexts.
