A new pre-military preparatory program dedicated to the Border Police track has been established in memory of fallen IDF soldier Ran Gvili, with a fundraising campaign now underway. The initiative is led by the Bitahonistim movement and aims to prepare cadets for service in the Border Police.
The Bitahonistim movement, a right-of-center civil society organization focused on Israeli security, has launched a fundraising campaign for a new pre-military preparatory school named after Sergeant First Class Ran Gvili, a Golani Brigade soldier killed in action in Gaza on November 10, 2023. Gvili was posthumously recognized as a hero of Israel. The prep program, according to the campaign page, will be dedicated exclusively to preparing cadets for service in the Border Police (Mishmar HaGvul), a branch of the Israel Police. The initiative is organized with the backing of the Gvili family and is separate from the civilian pre-police academy the family announced earlier this year in the Negev, which was also reported by The Zioneer in June. The campaign page directs donors to the Charidy crowdfunding platform. The Bitahonistim brand has been active in promoting this model of targeted pre-service academies as a way to strengthen security recruitment, particularly among national-religious youth.
