The US-based non-profit World Center for Withdrawal from the Chinese Communist Party reports repelling a massive cyberattack over 45 minutes, with more than 110,000 malicious attempts per second at its peak. The organization's chairperson, Wang Jiyuan, attributes the attack to state-backed Chinese hackers and says it failed. The NGO helps Chinese nationals worldwide formally leave the CCP.
The World Center for Withdrawal from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), a US-registered non-profit, says it repelled a sustained cyberattack on its websites on Monday. According to the organization's chairperson Wang Jiyuan, over the course of 45 minutes the sites faced more than 110,000 malicious access attempts per second at the peak, which he described as an attempt to exhaust resources and crash the servers. Wang attributed the attack to hackers supported by the Chinese regime, and said it failed.
The NGO states it has facilitated the formal departure of hundreds of millions of Chinese nationals worldwide from the CCP and its affiliated organizations, noting that roughly 50,000 people resign each day. Members often publish their resignation statements under pseudonyms to avoid personal risk. Wang claimed the total number of those who have left now exceeds 30% of China's population.
The report follows five incidents this year in which the NGO's volunteers were physically assaulted in the US, Britain, and South Korea, according to the organization. Wang called on Western citizens to support the effort by signing a petition at EndCCP.com. The claims have not been independently verified.
