Dozens of Haredi protesters are demonstrating outside Prison 10 at the Beit Lid base, according to footage from journalist Shila Fried. The protest, which includes clashes with a soldier at the gates, is against the arrest of draft evaders.
New footage from journalist Shila Fried, released Wednesday evening, shows dozens of Haredi protesters clashing with a soldier at the gates of Prison 10 at the Beit Lid base. The visual documentation confirms the confrontation that The Zioneer had reported earlier in the evening, as the protest escalated rapidly.
At 18:53 Jerusalem, The Zioneer first reported yeshiva students and rabbis rallying outside the prison. Within the same minute, additional reports identified the protesters as students from a Sephardic yeshiva, noted that the detained draft evader had come to seek an exemption, and documented clashes with soldiers. Moments later, the desk reported that protesters had breached the prison perimeter.
The protest is part of a broader wave of Haredi demonstrations against conscription enforcement. As The Zioneer has reported over the past weeks, similar protests took place at Beit Lid and other locations, including rallies attended by Shas MKs and counter-protests by groups in soldier pants.
The new footage captures the earlier clash but not the subsequent breach. As of 23:04 Jerusalem, it remains unclear whether military police have regained full control of the prison grounds and whether any injuries occurred during the breach.
