Jerusalem

Jerusalem is the capital of the State of Israel and the historic heart of the Jewish people. As a focal point of global religious significance and Israeli national sovereignty, it remains a primary target for regional adversaries, including the Iranian regime and its proxies, while serving as the seat of Israel's government and the U.S. Embassy.

Jerusalem stands as the eternal capital of the Jewish people, a status reaffirmed by Israeli leadership for over 3,000 years. In the modern era, it is the administrative and political center of the State of Israel, housing the Knesset, the Supreme Court, and the official residences of the President and Prime Minister. The city's status is a matter of profound national consensus within Israel, though it remains a subject of intense international diplomatic interest and frequent rhetorical attacks from regional adversaries. In June 2026, Jerusalem became a direct focal point of the escalating kinetic confrontation between Israel and the Islamic Republic of Iran. During a massive multi-directional barrage involving hundreds of ballistic missiles and drones launched from Iran and Yemen, sirens were activated across the Jerusalem metropolitan area on June 8. This necessitated the activation of Israel's multi-layered air defense systems, including Arrow and David's Sling, to protect the city's diverse population and holy sites. Interceptions were observed in the skies above the city and in surrounding areas, including Beit Shemesh and Tekoa. As a precautionary measure, the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem ordered its employees and their families to shelter in place and announced a temporary closure. Beyond strategic military threats, Jerusalem continues to navigate internal security challenges, including counter-terrorism efforts in the Old City and maintaining the delicate status quo at holy sites. The city remains the ultimate symbol of Jewish sovereignty and resilience, serving as both a modern metropolis and a living historical testament to the Jewish connection to the Land of Israel.
