Israel's Health and Environment Ministries have warned against entering eight northern rivers and streams due to abnormal water pollution: Banias, Hasbani, Jordan, Brikhat HaMeshushim, Gilbon, Zaki, Yehudiya, and Nahal Tzalamon. The advisory is immediately in effect.
The Health and Environment Ministries issued a joint advisory on Tuesday warning the public against entering eight northern water bodies due to abnormal water pollution levels. The listed sites are the Banias, Hasbani, Jordan River, Brikhat HaMeshushim (Hexagon Pool), Gilbon, Zaki, Yehudiya, and Nahal Tzalamon — popular swimming and hiking destinations in the Golan Heights and Upper Galilee.
The advisory cites 'abnormal water pollution,' though the ministries did not specify the contaminant or its source. Previous water-quality advisories in Israel have involved bacterial contamination from sewage runoff or agricultural waste, but this has not been confirmed. The public is advised to avoid any contact with the water until further notice.
This follows a similar Health Ministry warning earlier this month for the Cliff North beach in Tel Aviv due to abnormal water test results — a separate, unrelated incident.
