TL;DR

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman said Saturday that Tehran will not allow inspections of nuclear facilities damaged in strikes by the United States and Israel, and declared that UN Security Council Resolution 2231 has lost its legal validity. The spokesman also denied seeking to resume talks with the US, stating that Iran agreed only to receive mediators in Tehran.

01 · THE DISPATCH

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman on Saturday hardened Tehran's stance on nuclear inspections, declaring that Iran will not allow inspections of nuclear facilities damaged in strikes by the United States and Israel, and asserting that UN Security Council Resolution 2231 — the resolution endorsing the 2015 nuclear deal — has lost its legal validity.

The spokesman also denied that Iran sought to resume talks with the United States, contrary to American claims, and said Tehran had only agreed to receive mediators.

The statement is consistent with Iran's previous rejections of international verification. As The Zioneer has reported, Iran previously stated it would not allow IAEA inspectors to access sites struck during the war (June 23), and its UN mission argued that conditions for inspections could only be created after hostilities end (June 10). The new declaration goes further by challenging the legal basis of Resolution 2231 itself.

The remarks come as diplomatic tracks involving Pakistan and Qatar continue, though Iran has repeatedly suspended or conditioned talks on a halt to Israeli operations. It remains unclear whether the offer to receive mediators in Tehran signals any flexibility or is a procedural gesture.
