Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Oman on Saturday for talks focused on the Strait of Hormuz, as the Trump administration reportedly demands Tehran declare the waterway open to navigation, according to N12's Asaf Rozentzweig.
Araghchi is leading a delegation for discussions on the strategic strait and bilateral ties with Oman, it was reported. The visit follows a prior announcement on Friday that Araghchi would travel to Muscat for the talks, as The Zioneer reported at 21:55 Friday.
The diplomatic push comes amid heightened US pressure on Iran regarding freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Earlier this week, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed the strait and regional stability with UAE leadership. Qatar's prime minister was also in Oman earlier this week for mediation efforts on the same issue, as The Zioneer reported June 24.
Oman has traditionally served as a mediator between Gulf states and Iran. The outcome of the visit, and whether it will yield a concrete announcement on the strait's status, remains unclear.
