Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with Iraq's newly appointed Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi in Baghdad on Sunday, Asaf Rozentzweig (N12) reported. The meeting comes amid a series of Iranian diplomatic engagements in the region; as The Zioneer reported earlier this month, Araghchi recently met his Swiss counterpart in a meeting whose content was also not disclosed, and held talks with Pakistan's interior minister. Iraq's new premier, al-Zaidi, has been positioning himself diplomatically since taking office: he announced a planned visit to the United States in June, and was subsequently invited to the White House in mid-July. The content of the Araghchi-al-Zaidi discussions remains unconfirmed, and no joint statement has been issued as of Sunday afternoon.
