Israel's search and rescue delegation has shifted to assisting with rebuilding efforts in earthquake-stricken Venezuela, according to reports. The team previously worked around the clock on rescue operations.
The Israeli delegation dispatched to Venezuela in the wake of the devastating 7.5-magnitude earthquake has now transitioned from search-and-rescue operations to rebuilding efforts, according to reports. The team, which included personnel from Magen, Ready for Rescue, and SmartAID, had been working around the clock in the initial rescue phase.
As The Zioneer reported, the delegation arrived in late June, marking the first official Israeli contact with Caracas since the rupture of diplomatic ties in 2009. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar announced the mission on June 30, and the first rescue team departed on June 26.
The shift to rebuilding comes as the affected areas in Valencia and La Guaira begin the long recovery process. The Israeli experts are now assisting with infrastructure and reconstruction, reflecting the humanitarian ethos that has characterized the mission despite the absence of diplomatic relations.
