The advance team of Israel's official earthquake relief delegation landed in Venezuela on Wednesday evening, the Foreign Ministry reported. The mission is led jointly by Yoad Magen, the designated Israeli ambassador to Mexico, and Brig.-Gen. Elad Edri, head of the IDF delegation and deputy chief of the Home Front Command.
Upon landing, the team opened a series of working meetings with local authorities, emergency agencies, and other partners to assess the situation on the ground and plan joint operations. According to the statement, additional delegation members will join in the coming days, with expert teams due to begin operational work alongside local authorities once preparations are complete.
As The Zioneer reported earlier Wednesday, the official delegation's first flight touched down at 19:07 Jerusalem time. The mission — Israel's first official humanitarian deployment to Venezuela since the severance of diplomatic ties in 2009 — was announced by Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar last week following the devastating earthquake that struck the country.
