The KKL-JNF (Jewish National Fund) has announced an initial NIS 300,000 (approximately $100,000) in emergency assistance for Venezuela's Jewish community following the devastating twin earthquakes, the organization said Thursday. Half the funds will cover urgent humanitarian needs — food, mattresses, hygiene products, medical equipment, and clothing — while the remainder will support trauma therapy, educational programs, and respite activities for those affected.
The announcement by KKL-JNF follows similar emergency aid pledges by the Jewish Agency and an ongoing Israeli government assessment of a humanitarian mission, as The Zioneer reported earlier Thursday. The NIS 300,000 allocation, while modest in absolute terms, is intended as a rapid first tranche for the Jewish community of roughly 500 families displaced by the twin tremors that killed at least 164 people. KKL-JNF Chairman Avi Ostrensky has previously stated the organization's commitment to supporting diaspora Jewish communities in emergencies; this aid focuses on both immediate survival needs and longer-term psychological and educational support. The funds were drawn from KKL-JNF's existing emergency reserves. It remains unclear whether additional rounds of assistance are planned, as the full scale of damage to community infrastructure across La Guaira and other affected areas is still being assessed.
