The Knesset approved in a first reading a Shas party bill to establish an annual Moroccan Jewish Heritage Day, commemorating the community's immigration to Israel and those who perished en route. The day will be marked on the 23rd of Tevet, the date of the Egoz ship disaster in which 44 Jews drowned. MK Yinon Azulai said the law would enshrine the community's legacy and memory.
