Lebanese Justice Minister Adel Nassar said on Monday that Beirut wants the renewed talks with Israel in Washington to stabilize the security situation on the border, demarcate the frontier, and define the nature of future relations between the two countries, regardless of what that relationship will be. He called for direct negotiations to address all points concerning both sides.
Lebanese Justice Minister Adel Nassar addressed the upcoming round of Israel-Lebanon negotiations expected to resume on Monday in Washington, saying Beirut seeks to stabilize the security situation along the border, demarcate the frontier, and define the nature of future relations between the two countries — "whatever that relationship may be," he said in remarks reported by Kan 11.
Nassar stressed the need for direct negotiations to regulate all points of interest to both Lebanon and Israel, which he said would lead to a sustainable situation and determine the future character of relations between the two countries. He argued this would serve the security of southern Lebanon and Lebanon as a whole.
As The Zioneer reported earlier on Monday, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir called for treating Lebanon as "Israel's playing field." The comments come as the fifth round of US-mediated talks is set to open in Washington. The Zioneer previously reported that the Israeli defense establishment is pressing to fast-track the process, with one source telling Israel Hayom that Israel wants to reach an agreement before a comprehensive US-Iran deal is finalized.
