TL;DR

During a Knesset committee hearing on her request for parliamentary immunity, MK Tali Gottlieb (Likud) accused Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara of seeking to sabotage, obstruct, and blacken the right-wing government, and to whitewash the Shin Bet leadership over the October 7 disaster. Gottlieb asserted she is standing on her substantive immunity, arguing her actions were carried out within the scope of her role. The attorney general has announced intent to indict Gottlieb for revealing a Shin Bet operative's identity under the General Security Service law.

01 · THE DISPATCH

MK Tali Gottlieb (Likud) spoke Wednesday during a hearing at the Knesset House Committee on her request for parliamentary immunity, directly accusing Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara of political motivation. "The attorney general has a clear goal — to sabotage, obstruct, and blacken the right-wing government. There is a clear goal here — to whitewash the Shin Bet leadership over the October disaster," Gottlieb said, according to N12's Daphna Liel. She also stated: "We will never know how the October disaster befell us. I stand on my substantive immunity — this was done within the scope of my role, for the people and for my role."

As The Zioneer has reported, the attorney general announced last month her intent to indict Gottlieb for violation of the General Security Service Law, after Gottlieb revealed the name of a Shin Bet operative. In response, Gottlieb submitted a request for parliamentary immunity. The Knesset plenum is expected to vote on whether to grant her immunity, after the House Committee approved the request on Monday, June 15. Interior Minister Ze'ev Elkin has said he will support immunity, while former committee chairman MK Yuli Edelstein said he will vote to strip it, questioning a double standard. Likud has mandated attendance for Wednesday's plenum vote, with no absences authorized.
