MK Moshe Tur-Paz (Yesh Atid) sent a letter to the Education Ministry on Monday alleging that the ministry has been preventing the implementation of a legally mandated budget deduction from Haredi education networks that fail to teach core curriculum subjects. In the letter, quoted by N12 reporter Eli Hirschman, Tur-Paz wrote that 'hard and troubling data' reached his office indicating that the required deduction has not been carried out in practice and has been repeatedly blocked. The deduction, which is required by law, amounts to tens of millions of shekels. The Education Ministry has not yet responded to the claims. Tur-Paz has been a vocal critic of what he describes as insufficient enforcement of core curriculum requirements in state-funded Haredi institutions.
