United Torah Judaism faction chairman MK Uri Maklev said in response to a High Court decision that the court's rulings are disconnected from the public and undermine its legitimacy. 'We will continue in Torah study and the Torah way,' he said, according to N12.
MK Uri Maklev, chairman of the United Torah Judaism faction, issued a sharp response to a High Court decision on Wednesday evening. Reacting to the ruling, Maklev stated: 'The High Court says "we do not believe in their constitutions" [a reference to the ultra-Orthodox community's commitment to Torah law — Ed.], and we say "we do not take their rulings into account."' He accused the court of deepening its detachment from the public and eroding its own legitimacy. Maklev then affirmed that the ultra-Orthodox public will continue its path of Torah study and observance. The statement is the latest in a series of political reactions to High Court rulings on the ultra-Orthodox draft issue. As The Zioneer has previously reported, other coalition figures including Deputy Minister Almog Cohen and Minister Zeev Elkin have also voiced defiance, while the Hi-Tech Forum warned of economic consequences.
