Russian military analyst urges strategic strikes on Kyiv, Chernihiv infrastructure

TL;DR

A Russian unmanned aerial vehicle expert writing on a Russian channel argued that the only way to stop Ukrainian strikes on Novorossiya is to sever Chernihiv oblast and paralyze Kyiv by hitting bridges, dams and transport links, and to mine roads and declare nightly strikes. The analyst also noted that Ukraine has identified a vulnerability in security protocols: a single drone per hour can paralyze an entire city when traffic is halted during alerts.

01 · THE DISPATCH

A Russian analyst associated with a drone-focused channel published an extensive operational assessment calling for a strategic shift in Russia's approach to the war. The analysis, circulating on Telegram, proposes severing Chernihiv oblast — described as geographically convenient for isolation — and paralyzing Kyiv by systematically targeting bridges, dams and transport infrastructure. The author also advocates mining roads and announcing a nightly strike schedule from 23:00 to 08:00, arguing that most logistics move at night and such a policy would create severe problems for a large city since not everyone would dare travel. The analyst states that technically there is currently no way to stop strikes on Novorossiya, describing mobile fire groups, air defense systems and interceptor drones — if they existed in sufficient quantity — as needed yesterday, and calling current efforts a bandage on a deep wound. The assessment also notes that Ukraine has identified a vulnerability in Russian security protocols: when an alert is sounded, traffic on the Crimean Bridge, public transport and delivery points are halted, meaning a single drone per hour can completely paralyze an entire city. The analyst questions why Ukraine has not suffered a fuel crisis since 2022 and still has regular electricity supply, while Crimea may face power problems in the near future, and notes fuel and ammunition are being pushed to the Crimean Bridge to target it with externally-supplied ballistic missiles — a plan he says has been clear since autumn.
