An unexpected attack on a railway bridge in northern Iran created a crater but did not collapse the structure, according to local television. The bridge connects Iran to neighboring Turkmenistan. The cause remains unclear, with the possibility of a local operation not ruled out.
Shortly after a series of US strikes on railway bridges in northern Iran were confirmed earlier today, an unexplained attack on a separate railway bridge in the same region was reported by local television. The attack created a crater but did not collapse the bridge, which links Iran to Turkmenistan. The cause remains unknown, and the possibility of a local operation has not been ruled out.
The Zioneer reported earlier Thursday (Thu 02:36 Jerusalem) that the US military struck two railway bridges in northern Iran with cruise missiles, a strike confirmed by a senior US official and reported by Israeli journalist Barak Ravid (N12). That was the first US attack on Iranian infrastructure since the April 8 ceasefire. Additionally, a separate attack on a railway bridge near Ak-Kala village in Golestan province was reported by Abu Ali Express. The confirmation of the US strikes moved from initial Israeli media reports to on-record confirmation from a senior US official.
The new attack comes amid a broader campaign of infrastructure strikes in Iran. As The Zioneer has reported, the US strikes targeted bridges in northern Iran, and other incidents including damage at Chabahar port and explosions near the Iraq border have been documented.
The cause of the latest attack remains unclear, and no group has claimed responsibility. It is not yet known whether it is directly linked to the earlier US strikes. The damage is limited to a crater, with the bridge structure still intact.
