Staff Sgt. Nir Ben Ari was a dedicated fighter in the Maglan commando unit, part of the IDF's Commando Brigade. A resident of Kerem Maharal, Ben Ari was 21 years old at the time of his death. He fell during a period of significant escalation in the northern theater, as the IDF worked to dismantle Hezbollah's strategic infrastructure and underground headquarters along the border ridges. Ben Ari was killed during a combined Hezbollah attack on Israeli forces near the Ali Taher ridge and the village of Kfar Tebnit in southern Lebanon. The engagement involved a heavy barrage of dozens of rockets, mortar shells, and explosive drones launched by Hezbollah. In the same incident, 13 other soldiers were wounded, including two who sustained serious injuries. Initial reports from The Zioneer Intelligence Desk indicate that while Ben Ari was a member of the Maglan unit, he was operating in close coordination with armored forces from the 401st Brigade during the assault on the strategic ridge. The Ali Taher ridge is considered a critical Hezbollah stronghold, housing a complex network of tunnels and command centers. Ben Ari's death was announced alongside other casualties from the 52nd Armored Battalion, including its commander, Lt. Col. Dor Gedalia Ben Simhon, highlighting the intensity of the weekend's combat. His sacrifice is a testament to the high cost of securing Israel's northern border and the resilience of the commando units operating deep within enemy-held territory. He was laid to rest on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
