The IDF confirmed on Sunday evening that Golani Brigade troops have eliminated the Hezbollah operative responsible for an ambush earlier today that claimed the life of Capt. David Hazut in southern Lebanon. The terrorist was located and killed in a building near the site of the original clash following an extensive manhunt in the Deir Siryan area.

The Israel Defense Forces announced the conclusion of a targeted manhunt in southern Lebanon on Sunday, reporting that the operative who killed a Golani Brigade officer has been neutralized. The incident began during the night between Saturday and Sunday, when a combat team from the Golani Brigade entered a suspicious site in the Deir Siryan area. During the movement, the force encountered a Hezbollah operative, leading to a close-quarters exchange of fire.

The Initial Encounter

In the opening moments of the clash, Capt. David Hazut, 21, was fatally wounded. A second soldier sustained light injuries in the same engagement. Following the initial contact, the Hezbollah operative managed to flee the immediate vicinity, prompting IDF forces to launch a localized search operation to prevent his escape and remove the immediate threat to the unit.

Pursuit and Elimination

According to material reviewed by The Zioneer Intelligence Desk, the Golani troops conducted extensive searches through the rugged terrain and nearby structures. The operative was eventually identified hiding in a building located a short distance from the original ambush site. The forces engaged the building and eliminated the terrorist.

This development follows earlier reports today regarding the notification of Capt. Hazut's family. The IDF emphasized that it will continue to act against any threat to its forces and will not allow Hezbollah to target Israeli citizens or military personnel. The situation in the Deir Siryan sector remains under close military supervision as troops continue their operational activities in the northern theater.
