The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is a branch of Iran's armed forces, established after the 1979 revolution to protect the country's Islamic system of government. It operates in parallel to Iran's regular army and has grown into one of the most powerful institutions in the Iranian state, with land, air, and naval components, an extensive presence in the economy, and the elite Quds Force, which handles operations beyond Iran's borders. The IRGC is closely associated with Iran's ballistic-missile programme and with its support for allied armed movements across the region. Because of this role, several governments — including the United States — have designated the IRGC, or parts of it, as a terrorist organisation, a designation Iran rejects. The corps answers to Iran's Supreme Leader rather than to the elected government. In regional security coverage the IRGC features regularly in connection with Iran's military activity, its missile and drone capabilities, and its links to groups such as Hezbollah and the Houthis.

IRGC issues follow-up statement: complete withdrawal from all US talks, file closed permanently

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a further statement this morning expanding on its earlier decision to exit all negotiations with the United States. The IRGC said it considered US policy one of 'arrogance and extortion,' decided to fully withdraw from any direct or indirect track, and declared the matter 'permanently closed.' The statement also asserted that 'the logic of force is the only language this enemy understands.' The message draws a distinction between the IRGC and the Iranian state, with the IRGC claiming responsibility for its own decisions.

Analysis: The nuclear framework deal omits enriched uranium removal, dismantlement, missile limits, and terror cessation

According to i24NEWS diplomatic correspondent Amichai Stein, the emerging US-Iran nuclear framework memorandum does not include removal of enriched uranium, dismantlement of nuclear facilities, limiting missile production, or ending Iranian-backed terror activity. Stein frames the omissions as rendering the framework effectively contentless on core nonproliferation and security concerns.
