According to initial reports, 16 women were evacuated unconscious from an institute in Jerusalem on Wednesday evening, amid fears of a hazardous materials incident. The circumstances of the incident are under investigation.

01 · THE DISPATCH

Magen David Adom (MDA) reported that 16 women were evacuated unconscious from a beauty institute in Jerusalem’s A-Tur neighborhood on Wednesday, amid fears of a chemical incident. The development follows a series of events earlier Wednesday that began with reports of 12 women inhaling a suspected hazardous substance, which MDA later confirmed was carbon monoxide poisoning. Fire services identified the source as an illegally connected generator, and three suspects have been detained for questioning, according to Israel's Channel 12 News.

Earlier Wednesday, at 16:39 Jerusalem, reports indicated 17 women were injured by generator smoke, with seven in serious condition. By 17:16 Jerusalem, MDA revised the number to 12 women, aged 20-40, evacuated to three hospitals—Hadassah Ein Kerem, Hadassah Har HaTzofim, and Shaare Zedek—with seven in moderate condition and five in light condition. The Fire Department concluded hazmat treatment, with District Chief Shmulik Friedman warning the incident 'could have ended in disaster.' MDA confirmed monoxide poisoning, and the cause was traced to an illegal generator connection.

As The Zioneer reported earlier Wednesday, the incident occurred at a beauty salon in the A-Tur neighborhood. MDA confirmed monoxide poisoning and updated casualty numbers throughout the afternoon. Fire services determined the leak stemmed from a 'pirate generator'—an illegally connected unit—and stated there is no ongoing danger to the public.

It remains unclear why the 16 women were evacuated unconscious at the time of this latest report, while earlier MDA updates described seven women in moderate condition and five in light condition, all conscious. The condition of the 16 newly evacuated women has not been specified, and the investigation into the exact chain of events continues.
