California state senator Aisha Wahab won the special election to fill the congressional seat vacated by Rep. Eric Swalwell's resignation, according to The Zioneer. Wahab defeated Melissa Hernandez, who received over $2.5 million from the pro-Israel lobby AIPAC. The result came despite AIPAC's extensive backing of Hernandez. Wahab will become the first Afghan-American woman in the U.S. House of Representatives. She will serve the remainder of the term until January and then face Hernandez again in the November general election for a full two-year term. Wahab previously secured the Democratic nomination for this seat in the district's primary, as The Zioneer reported.
