Ben Gvir: Israel must not accept US-Iran ceasefire

Primary source Internal intake · 3 reviewed intake signals · Desk window 16:14

TL;DR

National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir said Monday that Israel must not accept the emerging US-Iran ceasefire agreement, calling for full operational independence and warning that any rocket fire on Israel would be treated as a declaration of war. His remarks follow an Iranian statement tying the Lebanon front to the broader deal and come as The Zioneer reported that Prime Minister Netanyahu has already told President Trump Israel is not bound by any Lebanon clause in the agreement.

01 · THE DISPATCH

National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir opened the Otzma Yehudit faction meeting Monday afternoon with a firm rejection of the emerging US-Iran ceasefire agreement. 'The State of Israel must not accept the ceasefire between the US and Iran,' he stated, adding that Israel must act from a clear and uncompromising security consciousness, and that the lives of Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers stand above any other consideration.

Ben Gvir demanded that Prime Minister Netanyahu allow IDF forces to continue demolishing Hezbollah operatives' homes, eliminating Hezbollah terrorists, and displacing residents from their homes in southern Lebanon, asserting that Israel should not operate based on understandings between Trump and Khamenei. He warned that any drone or missile launch at Israel would require a crushing response, 'until the Dahieh is set ablaze,' and that fire on Israel constitutes a declaration of war.

His remarks come as Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Monday that Lebanon is a critical part of the US-Iran peace deal, and that diplomatic visits to regional countries are on the agenda before the agreement's signing, due Friday in Geneva. As The Zioneer reported earlier Monday, Prime Minister Netanyahu has already informed President Trump that Israel is not bound by any Lebanon clause in the emerging memorandum of understanding, reflecting a widening gap between Jerusalem and Washington over the deal's implications for Israel's security on its northern front.
