MK Simcha Rothman ordered Deputy Attorney General Gil Limon out of the Knesset Constitution Committee room Tuesday after Limon rebuked Rothman for interrupting a colleague's speaking time. The session is preparing the bill to split the Attorney General's role for its second and third readings.
Constitution Committee chair MK Simcha Rothman (Religious Zionism) expelled Deputy Attorney General Gil Limon from a committee hearing Tuesday afternoon after Limon interrupted Rothman, saying the chair was cutting short the speaking time of fellow Deputy AG Avital Sompolinsky. All six deputy attorneys general were present for the session, which is preparing the bill to split the Attorney General's role for its second and third readings.
The incident escalated an already tense atmosphere in the committee. Earlier this month, Rothman rebuked Limon during a separate hearing on the same bill, and Shas MK Erez Malul launched a blistering verbal attack on Limon in the same forum on June 16. The Zioneer reported on June 10 that the committee began a marathon of deliberations toward the bill's final readings, with Rothman announcing the law will take effect about six months after passage.
