The Samaria Regional Council and Amana placed dozens of caravans at the new Emek Dotan settlement in the Dotan Valley of northern Samaria on Tuesday, ahead of the community's formal establishment. According to the council, the settlement will eventually house hundreds of families and a pre-military yeshiva headed by Rabbi Chaim Baruch. Council head Yossi Dagan, who participated in placing the caravans, said the effort is part of a broader initiative to establish 19 new communities in the region, in response to the destruction of four settlements during the 2005 disengagement. 'We are returning with force,' Dagan stated. The move is the latest in a series of steps by the council to expand Israeli presence in northern Samaria.
