The Education Ministry has initiated administrative proceedings to close the Nur al-Huda school in the Shuafat neighborhood of Jerusalem, following a years-long campaign by the Hakol Hayehudi outlet and MK Zvi Sukkot.
In a letter sent last week, the ministry detailed findings linking the school to a Hamas-affiliated charity, Lajnat Zakat al-Quds, whose director was charged as a Hamas operative in Jerusalem. The charity was dissolved by court order, and its former head, Khaled Sabah, was released in a hostage deal. The school's principal, Hamza Kisi, is a senior figure in that charity. The ministry also cited the British organization Human Appeal, designated in Israel as an unlawful Hamas association, which funded the school's construction.
Additional violations include use of unauthorized textbooks and unlicensed teaching staff. The ministry warned of budget freezes and license revocation. MK Sukkot, chair of the Knesset Education Committee, stated: 'We will not allow the State of Israel to fund Hamas institutions. This is exactly the role of the Education Committee — to supervise and expose.'
