Egyptian authorities have refused to allow the LGBTQ cruise ship Scarlet Lady to dock in Alexandria, days after Turkey similarly denied port access, according to reports.
The Scarlet Lady, an LGBTQ cruise ship carrying 1,900 passengers, has been denied docking by two countries in succession. Turkey blocked the ship from docking in Kuşadası on July 3, citing behavior incompatible with Turkish society and moral values, as The Zioneer reported. Now Egypt has also refused entry to the ship in Alexandria, according to a report by The Guardian cited by The Zioneer earlier today. The ship had redirected to Crete after the Turkish denial and then toward Egypt. The reasons for Egypt's refusal have not been detailed. The back-to-back rejections underscore growing regional resistance to LGBTQ visibility in the Eastern Mediterranean.
