01 · THE DISPATCH

Former IDF Chief of Staff and Yashar party chair Gadi Eisenkot publicly endorsed MK Hili Tropper (National Unity) on Tuesday, calling him a unifying and experienced leader who should play a central role in the national rehabilitation effort. In a statement, Eisenkot said Tropper deserves to be a key voice in the 'Zionist national unity government we will establish' — a reference to his stated goal of forming a broad-based coalition after the upcoming elections.

The endorsement is the latest in a series of political positioning moves by Eisenkot as he campaigns to become prime minister. Over the past month, he has also reportedly coordinated with former PM Naftali Bennett, who said he is '100% certain' he will serve as Eisenkot's No. 2. The remarks come amid ongoing public debate over the direction of Israel's war effort and political leadership.

Tropper, a former education minister and social equality minister, has not yet formally responded. The statement was reported by journalist Amit Segal (N12).
