Former IDF chief of staff and Yashar party chair Gadi Eisenkot said Thursday in an interview with i24NEWS that his goal after the upcoming election is to form a government with the broadest possible consensus — one that can make the tough decisions facing the country. 'We are opening a new chapter in Israel's history. A much better chapter,' Eisenkot said, without specifying which parties he would invite into the coalition or whether he would sit with Prime Minister Netanyahu.
The remarks come on the same day Eisenkot is expected to outline more of his platform in a separate campaign event. As The Zioneer reported earlier this week, Eisenkot formally launched his campaign on Tuesday evening vowing to restore unity and cap reserve service. The centrist former general has consistently polled as a contender capable of drawing voters from across the spectrum, including from Netanyahu's Likud and the center-left bloc.
