Opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot on Monday evening condemned remarks by Rabbi Dov Landau, calling them 'vile' and accusing the Netanyahu government of sending soldiers into battle while relying on such voices.
'These are vile words,' Eisenkot said in a statement. 'One can only be ashamed of the unfortunate fact that the Netanyahu government sent our fighters into battle relying on these voices.'
Earlier Monday, Eisenkot called the same remarks 'anti-Zionism personified' and urged all Zionist parties to disavow any party holding that worldview, The Zioneer reported at 20:24. Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett also sharply criticized Landau's comments, calling them 'antisemitic' and accusing Prime Minister Netanyahu of backing them.
Rabbi Landau, a prominent Haredi leader, had stated that it would have been better if the State of Israel had never been established, sparking a political storm.
