Former IDF chief and National Unity MK Gadi Eizenkot said at a Reichman University conference that Prime Minister Netanyahu received warnings from multiple Arab sources, the UAE, and Egypt ahead of the October 7 attack, and that the Shin Bet knew a very serious event was coming. Eizenkot also stated Netanyahu did not approve targeted killings in Gaza, calling the overall failure 'very grave.'
Speaking at a Reichman University conference on Monday evening, MK Gadi Eizenkot (National Unity) accused Prime Minister Netanyahu of receiving specific warnings from multiple Arab governments, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt in the period before the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack. Eizenkot claimed the Shin Bet was aware that a very serious event was imminent, but that Netanyahu did not approve targeted strikes against Hamas in Gaza. He described the resulting failure as 'very grave.'
The remarks are the latest in a series of public accusations by Eizenkot, a former IDF chief of staff and member of the war cabinet in the war's early months. The Zioneer has previously reported on Eizenkot's call for a state commission of inquiry and his allegation that the prime minister submitted a false document to the State Comptroller to block such a probe.
The Prime Minister's Office has not yet responded to the new claims. The event at Reichman is part of an ongoing public reckoning within Israel over the intelligence and political failures surrounding the October 7 attack.
