Firefighters rescued a trapped resident from a burning apartment on Rabbi Akiva Street in Modi'in Illit, according to the Israel Fire and Rescue Services. Heavy smoke filled the building; other occupants were ordered to shelter in place. A daycare center nearby was also threatened by the smoke. The fire is under control.
A fire broke out in a residential apartment on Rabbi Akiva Street in Modi'in Illit on Tuesday afternoon, the Israel Fire and Rescue Services reported. Firefighters from the Binyamin district arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the building, which is located near a daycare center. The teams extinguished the blaze, rescued one trapped resident from inside, and searched for additional individuals; no further casualties were reported. Occupants of the building, including families with small children, were instructed by the incident commander to remain in their apartments and avoid the smoke-filled stairwell. The incident follows a string of residential fires in Modi'in Illit in recent weeks. As The Zioneer reported earlier today, a smaller fire in the city was contained with one light injury. Earlier this month, a family escaped an apartment fire caused by candles, and a daycare fire prompted an evacuation. The cause of Tuesday's blaze is under investigation.
