Fourteen firefighting crews are battling a large blaze at a scrap and light metal storage site on HaMoskim Street in Haifa, the Israel Fire and Rescue Services said. Firefighters are containing the fire to prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings and factories. No casualties have been reported, but the operation is expected to last hours due to the heat released by burning metals.
The Israel Fire and Rescue Services reported a significant fire early Tuesday morning in an industrial scrap storage lot at 51 HaMoskim Street in Haifa. Fourteen crews from Haifa and the Krayot stations, supported by command vehicles, a water supply truck, and a high-reach aerial ladder, were dispatched just before midnight. The fire erupted in a massive pile of scrap and light metals roughly 30 meters high, producing intense heat and thick smoke.
Firefighters conducted perimeter searches to rule out trapped persons and are working to contain the blaze to prevent it from reaching adjacent factories and buildings. Station Haifa Deputy Commander, Deputy Fire Chief Kfir Janah, declared a station-level 'mega-fire' upon arrival. 'Due to the high fire load and intense heat emitted by the burning metals, extinguishing, clearing, and cooling operations are expected to take a long time,' Janah said. No casualties have been reported.
As The Zioneer reported earlier this morning, the fire was first logged as a developing incident with 14 crews on site. The fire is an industrial incident confined to the scrap storage site; residential areas are not threatened. The cause has not yet been determined.
