German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said Tuesday that the Gaza agreement must be implemented in its entirety, and declared full support for Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar's demand for the disarmament of Hamas. He called on all signatories to use their influence to ensure the terrorist organization relinquishes its de facto control of the Strip, grants Palestinians their freedom, and does not rearm against Israel. The remarks were reported by Ariel Kahana (Israel Hayom).
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul issued a clear statement Tuesday in support of the full implementation of the Gaza agreement and the disarmament of Hamas, addressing remarks by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar earlier in the day.
'We are very clear that the plan for the Gaza Strip must be implemented in its entirety, and therefore I fully support your words, Gideon: the disarmament of Hamas is required,' Wadephul said, according to Israel Hayom journalist Ariel Kahana. He added that all signatories to the agreement must use their influence to ensure that the terrorist organization relinquishes its de facto control of the Strip, grants Palestinians the freedom they deserve, and does not rearm against Israel.
The statement marks the latest in a series of meetings between Sa'ar and Wadephul — their ninth — during which they are also expected to sign a €5 million annual German contribution to Yad Vashem, as The Zioneer reported earlier Tuesday. Wadephul's remarks align with positions previously expressed by Chancellor Friedrich Merz and other European leaders regarding the necessity of Hamas disarmament as a precondition for Gaza reconstruction and a lasting ceasefire.
