IDF soldier in Lebanon to The Zioneer: Political echelon talk is irrelevant; we work nonstop

TL;DR

An IDF soldier on the ground in the Yaroun-Bint Jbeil sector of southern Lebanon told The Zioneer on Sunday evening that political commentary from former prime ministers does not reflect the reality on the ground. "Not one soldier cares about Bennett or Lieberman... We work nonstop. Enough nonsense," the soldier said, pushing back against claims that troops' hands are tied by the political echelon.

01 · THE DISPATCH

An IDF soldier operating in southern Lebanon's Yaroun-Bint Jbeil sector directly addressed the public debate over political echelon restrictions in a Sunday evening message to The Zioneer. The soldier dismissed the relevance of recent statements by former prime ministers Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid — as well as others — who claimed that troops are forbidden from firing at militants and that their hands are tied.

"I am in Lebanon, I always talk to soldiers and ask if anyone talks to Bennett or Lieberman. Not one soldier cares about Bennett or Lieberman," the soldier wrote. "Beyond that, we work nonstop!!! Enough nonsense. Sure, there are some restrictions, some difficulties, but come on — we are in the field. Don't confuse our minds with talk of tying our hands."

The message comes amid a wave of Israeli political commentary about operational constraints in Lebanon. As The Zioneer reported earlier Sunday, Bennett called on those who cannot allow troops to defend themselves to "go home," and Lapid claimed soldiers were barred from shooting at terrorists. Senior analyst Amit Segal (N12) assessed that the restrictions are temporary but still dangerous. A senior Israeli security source told The Zioneer on Saturday that the situation in Lebanon is "war, not a ceasefire."

The soldier's account provides a ground-level perspective that contrasts with the political narrative: acknowledging some restrictions but rejecting the framing of a crippled force.

The source is a single, direct communication to The Zioneer and cannot be independently verified; the soldier's identity is not disclosed.
