The Israel Internet Association (IUI) issued a renewed warning on Monday that the wave of WhatsApp account blocks continues to affect Israeli users. The association reported that it is receiving numerous new complaints and that many users remain blocked despite submitting appeals. Some users who were unblocked have been re-blocked, the association said.
The IUI advises users to immediately back up important data stored in WhatsApp and to install alternative messaging apps to reduce dependency on the platform. The association also cautioned against paying third parties who claim they can remove the block, stating that only Meta can handle the issue.
The association first alerted the public to the wave of blocks on Saturday, July 25. In its latest statement, the IUI said that Meta has so far been unable to stop the wave, which the company itself acknowledged as a bug. The IUI called on the next Knesset to regulate such services under Israeli law.
