The Judicial Selection Committee approved Judge Menachem Mizrahi's promotion to the Central District Court, along with some 70 other judicial appointments, in a rare agreement between Justice Minister Yariv Levin and the court administration, according to reports. Mizrahi drew attention over the past year for rulings not seen as hostile to the right.
The Judicial Selection Committee on Sunday evening approved the promotion of Judge Menachem Mizrahi from the Central District Magistrate's Court to the Central District Court, as part of a broader slate of some 70 judicial appointments across Israel. The appointments were agreed in a rare cross-party accord between Justice Minister Yariv Levin and the court administration, according to reports.
Mizrahi, a magistrate court judge, drew attention over the past year for rulings that were not labeled as overly critical toward the right-wing political camp. His promotion had been one of several appointments that had been pending amid political tensions over judicial selection.
As The Zioneer reported earlier Sunday, the committee had concluded its session and appointed dozens of judges to lower courts, including traffic, juvenile, and family courts. Mizrahi's promotion to the district court was confirmed shortly afterward in a separate announcement.
