TL;DR

Mohsen Rezaei, an advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader, accused the United States on Saturday of continuing to create tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and of violating a memorandum of understanding with Tehran. In a statement carried by Iranian media, he warned that any further violation will draw a 'swift and decisive' response.

01 · THE DISPATCH

Mohsen Rezaei, an advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, on Saturday accused the United States of continuing to stoke tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and of violating articles of the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding. Writing on Telegram, Rezaei — a former IRGC commander and current Expediency Discernment Council secretary — said Washington was responsible for creating the ongoing friction in the strategic waterway. 'The response to any violation of the memorandum of understanding will be swift and decisive,' he wrote.

The statement comes as part of an escalating rhetorical exchange over the MOU, which has been a central point of tension between Washington and Tehran in recent weeks. As The Zioneer reported earlier Saturday, Rezaei referenced articles one and five of the MOU, accusing the U.S. of supporting regional proxies and escalating activity around the strait. This follows a series of Iranian warnings — including from Foreign Minister Araghchi on June 19 and Foreign Ministry spokesperson Baghaie on June 15 — that the U.S. would bear responsibility for any violation of the agreement's commitments.

The Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of the world's oil passes, has been a recurring flashpoint in U.S.-Iran tensions. Rezaei's latest remarks did not specify what form a response would take, but the use of the word 'violation' (הפרה) in the original Hebrew translation of the Iranian statement mirrors the language used in previous Iranian warnings about potential military or diplomatic countermeasures.
