The Knesset House Committee voted Wednesday 11-3 to grant MK Tally Gottlieb parliamentary immunity, rejecting the attorney general's opposition. Coalition Chairman MK Ofir Katz accused the Attorney General's Office of seeking to disrupt the government, according to N12.
The Knesset House Committee voted 11-3 on Wednesday to grant MK Tally Gottlieb (Likud) parliamentary immunity, overriding opposition from Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara. Coalition Chairman MK Ofir Katz, who also chairs the committee, said after the vote: "The committee accepted Tally Gottlieb's position over other positions by an overwhelming majority of 11 to 3. Public trust is a fundamental condition for the legitimacy of the legal advisory body to the government. Unfortunately, since this government was formed, all that has interested this institution and its head is one thing — to disrupt the government's work and try to topple a government elected by the public."
Katz further accused opposition members of groveling to the attorney general during the hearing, saying they "screamed and shouted at anyone who asked her a question about her selective enforcement." The vote follows a prolonged political-legal battle over Gottlieb's actions, which included an allegation that she revealed a Shin Bet officer's name — the subject of a separate legal proceeding. As The Zioneer reported on Monday, the committee had previously adjourned without a decision, deferring the vote. Today's outcome marks a significant coalition victory and a direct rebuke of the attorney general, deepening the ongoing confrontation between the government and the legal establishment.
