Lebanese President Joseph Aoun is scheduled to visit Washington to meet with US President Donald Trump within the next week or two, marking the first visit by a Lebanese head of state to the White House in over a decade.
The trip follows several prior rounds of high-level contacts between Aoun and the Trump administration. As The Zioneer reported earlier Monday, Aoun spoke by phone with US Vice President JD Vance, Trump envoy Jared Kushner, and Qatar's Prime Minister — discussions focused on a ceasefire in Lebanon. Last week, Trump stated that the Lebanese president was expected to visit Washington soon, and also publicly urged Syria to address Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Aoun previously welcomed the US-Iran memorandum of understanding announced in mid-June, saying the Lebanese people expect practical steps that end the cycle of violence. The visit, if it proceeds as reported, would be the highest-profile face-to-face engagement between Lebanon's presidency and the Trump White House in years.
The exact date of the visit has not been confirmed.
