Attorney Shlomo Lerner, chairman of the Likud Reserve Forum, together with dozens of reserve officers and fighters, called on Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee chairman MK Bismuth to advance the 36-month mandatory service extension law. The group warned that failure to pass the law would place an unbearable burden on already exhausted reservists.
The call from the Likud Reserve Forum chairman comes as the Knesset debates the mandatory service extension bill. The Zioneer has previously reported on senior IDF officials warning of a personnel crisis if the extension is not passed (see June 10, July 2). The forum's letter specifically warns that without the 36-month law, the already heavy burden on reservists—who have been serving continuously since the war began—will become unsustainable. The bill is currently before the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, chaired by MK Bismuth. The prime minister's office has not yet publicly commented on the forum's letter.
