Receding waters of the Danube River near the town of Prahovo in Serbia have exposed the wrecks of German warships deliberately sunk in 1944. The ships may still contain live ammunition, posing a hazard to navigation.
According to reports, the prolonged heatwave and drought have caused the Danube River to drop to unprecedented low levels, revealing the wrecks of Nazi warships from World War II. The ships were scuttled by German forces in 1944 during their retreat to prevent capture by the advancing Soviet Red Army and to block the river. Some of the vessels are believed to still contain unexploded ordnance, making removal dangerous and posing a threat to river traffic. The site is near the town of Prahovo in Serbia.
