Agriculture Minister Avi Dichter toured the renewed settlement of Sha-Nur in northern Samaria on Tuesday with Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan, praising the resettlement. Dagan said settlement and agriculture bring security to the region.
The visit comes amid ongoing efforts to reestablish communities in northern Samaria, an area evacuated in 2005 as part of the disengagement plan. Dichter, a member of the Likud party, has been a vocal supporter of settlement expansion. In a statement, Dagan reiterated his vision of agricultural settlement as a security tool. The event was also attended by the director of the Association of Farms. As The Zioneer reported in June, Dagan has been promoting a plan to establish 18 new settlements in the region, with support from U.S. lawmakers.
